Linas Agro Group is constructing two grain elevators in Latvia
AB Linas Agro Group subsidiary SIA Linas Agro Graudu Centrs have started construction of two new grain elevators in Latvia. One of them will emerge in Grobiņa and hold 19,600 tons of grain, the other will be built in Rēzekne and store 21,400 tons of grain. The grain elevators are scheduled to open at the start of the new grain harvesting season. The investment will amount to EUR 8.7 million.
“After we opened a grain reception station in Rēzekne in 2016 and started purchasing grain, farmers brought 5,761 tons of grain. We have already accepted 20,509 tons or 3.6 times more over the nine months of this financial year. The increasing amount gives a clear signal that there is a need for such services in the region and we have to construct the grain elevator there. The situation in Skrunda is quite similar: in nine months of this financial year, we accepted 4,501 tons of grain, thus we searched for a site near Skrunda but closer to Liepaja port and found Grobiņa. It will be an elevator-intermediary between the field and the port, accepting grain directly from the field and preparing it for export,”says Alvydas Ramanauskas, Director of UAB Linas Agro Grūdų Centras KŪB which is the sole shareholder of SIA Linas Agro Graudu Centrs.
Grain quantities sourced via SIA Linas Agro Graudu Centrs are increasing: in the 2016/17 financial year the total amount of collected grain amounted to almost 30 thousand tons, while during the nine months of this financial year almost 57 thousand tons have already been accepted.
“From the 2018 harvest, we expect to collect 50 thousand tons of grain via both new grain elevators, and the total amount of grain sourced via SIA Linas Agro Graudu Centrs should reach 85 thousand tons this year,” plans A. Ramanauskas.
